With so much free time at home, and not much else to do other than watch tv, why not use it for some self-discovery?
For these activities use a scale from 1-5 with 1 being not at all, and 5 being extremely, rate your emotions. Emotions to include: interest, excitement, guilt, fear, sadness, enthusiasm, inspiration, nervousness, determination, alertness, irritability, attentiveness, passion, hostility, and pride. This scale is a synapses of the PANDAS scale that indicates the extent to which you feel a particular emotion(Lopez, et. al, 2015).
Fill out this scale before watching a favorite comedy show or cartoon. Make sure the content is good-natured rather than sarcastic or dark humor. Then fill out the scale again after the show (10-30 minutes without commercials). Note the changes in positive and negative affect.
Taking the experiment further, carefully pick out a sad movie with a melancholy ending, and a feel-good movie that empathizes joy. You can take the same survey before and after each movie to compare, but ask yourself after each movie, "if you could do anything at all right now, what would you do?" If you are with family or friends for both movies, ask them the same question, and take not of how many future-oriented activities are mentioned. The difference between responses to each movie are your though-action repertoires in action showing how our mindset affects our actions.
