Discover Your Strengths!

In Positive Psychology it is shown that an understanding of one's top strengths can lead to a more fulfilling life!

A strength is defined as a capacity for feeling, thinking, and behaving in a way that allows optimal functioning in the pursuit of valued outcomes(Linley & Harrington, 2006 as cited in Lopez et. al, 2015). Knowing one's character strengths can lead to a more positive every day life when applied(Lopez, et. al, 2015), so to find your strengths see the resources below.

Visit https://www.viacharacter.org/survey/account/register for a VIA survey to find your character strengths.

The Search Institutes 40 Developmental Assets: https://www.search-institute.org/our-research/development-assets/developmental-assets-framework/ is another source that has multiple surveys one could take to help reflect the primary factors that promote thriving youth(Lopez, et.al, 2015). Surveys are on Assets and Behaviors, Developmental Assets, Developmental Relationship Survey, and Youth & Program Strengths.

The final strategy for finding your top strengths is a personal experiment. Once you have found your top strengths (either through the above links or just by asking close friends or family) try and use them! Pick one strength and try using it, the first 25 attempts to apply yourself will create a habit, and cultivate the strength(Lopez, et. al, 2015).
