SUNSHINE!

Enjoy the benefits of getting outside!

With forced social distancing, we are asked to staying at home to try to #FlattenTheCurve. Staying at home doesn't mean staying inside! Spring has sprung! In the midst of all this chaos, take some time for you outdoors and appreciate the season of new life blossoming around you.

3 in 4 Americans do not get enough vitamin D in their diets. (Source 1)

Going outside and soaking up a little sun during the day helps you get some of that free "sunshine vitamin". Just remember sunscreen season is just around the corner :)

Besides a vitamin boost there are several other benefits to getting outside in nature:

(From Source 2)

  • Better Vision

  • Stress Relief

  • Heightened Focus

  • Calms the Mind

  • Increase in Short Term Memory

Most importantly though, sunshine makes you happy.

"Light exposure increases serotonin in humans, and serotonin levels are lowest

in midwinter, and higher on bright days no matter what time of year." (source 3)

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter largely associated with happiness and reward in our brains. Our brains are wired to be happier when living in the light!

So what are you waiting for? Spend less time staring at your screens and spend a little more of it in the world awakening around you. These benefits can be enjoyed alone or with others (at a proper social distance of course). Get outside, enjoy this season of new life, and reap the health benefits
